New Blog

Hello lovely people, welcome to my new blog. I'm Stephanie Cost, an artist living in Seattle who draws a lot of plants, skulls, fantasy stuff and occasionally landscapes and TTRPG freelance work.

This blog exists because I want a place to put down suggestions for art resources and have an informal journal that exists outside of Patreon and social media feeds.

If you're not already familiar with my own work, this is the sort of thing I'm obsessed with doing lately. I'm really loving dense, repeating florals. I'm working on a pattern collection and an eventual line of clothing of some sort, like leggings or scarves, for them to go on.

I'm going to be test driving a new way of breaking up my year. I want to be "on" for six months (March to September) and do a lot of extroverted buyer-facing art releases, conventions, sales etc during the warmer months, and then switch to "off" mode from September to the following March and do more introverted things like taking classes, reading more books, prepping releases and drawing more.

I named this little blog "Six Seeds" because the concept of six months on/six months off is similar to the story of Persephone eating six seeds in the Underworld and spending half her year aboveground and the other half below.

Here's a photo I took on a walk around my neighborhood! Feel free to use it for anything you'd like. I'm hoping to incorporate it soon into pattern making.

And here are some other recommendations I have this week:

What I'm reading: The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell (fiction)
Reference I'm using: Barn Owl taken by Kaitlund Zupanic
Podcast I'm listening to: Do It For The Process by Emily Jeffords
Art Education: Capturing Captivating Light by Daniel Gerhartz
